I follow a typical prenatal schedule, with monthly visits until around 28 weeks, then 2 visits a month until 38 weeks, and then weekly or twice a week until you have your baby. Postpartum I come to your home to check on you and baby at minimum 5 times, once in the first 24-48 hours, around 3 days, another week after that, 3 weeks, and at 5-6 weeks postpartum. Sometimes moms need more postpartum support, and I am happy to come by for help with lactation or to address any concerns. I am also available by phone for troubleshooting or help.
Most prenatal visits are at my office in downtown Louisville - we do a home visit around 36 weeks and your postpartum visits at home. We talk about nutrition, your birth history and previous experiences, your upcoming birth, common experiences of pregnancy, supplements, and baby’s position, as well as measuring your uterus, taking your blood pressure, and listening to the baby. We also can do standard bloodwork in the office, including the glucose test and GBS testing, and refer out for ultrasounds.
Hiring a midwife is a support to you having an autonomous birth. I expect parents to take ownership of their decisions and their birth experience by being active decision makers. I expect there to be mutual respect between the midwife and family and appreciate your flexibility about appointments and communication. I am a one-woman show so if I am at a birth, I will need to reschedule your appointments or our communication. I recommend an ultrasound but do not require it. I don't require any testing except basic blood work to check your blood type, hemoglobin, and screen for basic infections to keep my team and your baby safe.

What you can expect to pay:
My fee is $5000 for everything - that includes all visits, the birth, pool rental, most birth supplies, my on-call time, communication with me through text, call or email, and paying an assistant to attend your birth with me. Insurance doesn’t cover it but occasionally people have luck after the birth submitting a super bill for reimbursement. It does not include standard labs (which are usually covered by your insurance or cost about $150 out of pocket), or ultrasounds. The ultrasound place I most commonly use is about $180 for an anatomy scan out of pocket.
